The
global outbreak of Covid-19 is affecting every part of human lives, including
the physical world. The measures taken to control the spread of the
virus and the slowdown of economic activities have significant effects on the
environment. It would make sense to assume that the natural world, at
least, is getting a bit of a break. A world in which humans are traveling far less should offer
major environmental benefits. Due to movement restriction and a significant
slowdown of social and economic activities, air quality has improved in many places
with a reduction in water pollution in different parts of the world. One the
other hand, increased use of PPE their haphazard disposal, and generation of a
huge amount of hospital waste has negative impacts on the environment.
Environmental awareness is extremely important in today's day and age. There are too many people out there who either refuse to believe that global warming or climate change is real, or just too ignorant to understand what it means. The environment is an important issue even when society is faced with economic crises, wars, and unending social problems. It matters because Earth is the only home that humans have. If only nature can talk and say how foolish we are for making a hole that protects us from the sun, cutting trees that provides clean air that we need to survive, and killing wildlife exchange of money. It provides all the necessities of every human being but still we couldn’t even put out garbage to the right trash bin.
We need to change for the betterment o our environment, correct our actions and fulfill our roles as the earth’s protectors. As simple as cleaning, planting, proper disposal, and doing the 5Rs, can make a big impact to our environment but like a storm that we can’t concur alone, we need each other’s helping hands that is why we need to start sharing awareness and active participation. We can help by taking part specially in environmental activities such as Energy management, green purchasing, Hazardous, Solid Waste Management, National Clean up Months and more.
